1. An introduction to public involvement in research: 20 November 2012, 2pm - 5pm
This People and Research South West course will consider different models of involvement including how the public and patients can be involved on research panels, advisory groups, as research partners, peer researchers and user-led health and social care research.

2. Evaluating Digital Public Engagement Impacts: 27 November, Warwick
This workshop is an opportunity to find out about two of the projects funded by JISC as part of "Embedding impact analysis good practice in research” which the NCCPE has been supporting.
- The Tracking Digital Impacts (TDI) team have developed a tool to assist in identifying the best medium to use when engaging with publics online.
- The Public Engagement with Research Online (PERO) team have developed an initial framework to analyse the reach and significance of online public engagement with research.

3. Universities Association for Lifelong Learning Annual Conference: proposals for papers by 30 December 2012
Who and what are universities for? Local communities, global competitiveness and the part-time student. Proposals for papers and poster sessions are invited on this conference theme.

1. Careering Around – there’s still time to get involved: 7-8, 12-14 November
The Cheltenham Science Festival is looking for early career scientists or science professionals to share their passion for science in an outreach program for year 9 pupils called Careering Around.
Careering Around - careers guidance but not as you know it - gets KS3 and KS4 pupils thinking about the benefits of qualifications in science, technology, engineering and maths as they come face to face with people working in science-related fields. Unlike a standard careers fair, Careering Around involves interactive sessions based on a speed dating format, making it lively, dynamic and definitely memorable!
We're looking for enthusiastic people who are working in science-related fields to join us for one or two days between 7-8 and 12-14 November. We'll be visiting schools in Gloucestershire and Somerset and working with Y9 pupils.

2. South West Crucible – a development programme for future research leaders: deadline 25 November
Crucible is the highly successful, professional and personal leadership and development programme established by NESTA for innovative researchers. The aim of the programme is to help you develop skills, knowledge and connections to put your research into a wider context and enhance your innovative capacity. Applications are welcomed from early career academics (such as experienced postdocs/research officers, research fellows and lecturers in their 1st post or industry equivalent) from all backgrounds.
