Synthetic biology: science and ethics

Synthetic Biology can be broadly described as the design and construction of new biological systems not found in nature. The field encompasses aspects of biology, biochemistry, chemistry and engineering. This science café aims to explore the science and ethical implications of this fascinating subject, in an informal setting which promotes discussion and debate.

Public engagement at the Synthetic Components Network Meeting

Philippa from CPE presented at the first annual Synthetic Components Network meeting - 23 and 24 September in Oxford. The Network's membership is diverse - from biochemists and mathematical modelers to ethicists and engagement practitioners. All are interested in the emerging field of synthetic biology - the science, the ethical, legal and social issues, and how to create a meaningful dialogue with the public about the field.
