University of Bristol engagement
1. Volunteering at Doors Open Day: 14 September
We are looking for staff and students to help out at the “Hands-on Research” fair that we are organising within the Doors Open Day. Volunteers will be able to help deliver some of the activities that several research groups will be bringing to the Wills Memorial building. It will be a great opportunity to engage visitors with the current research that is taking place at the University. 2. University of Bristol Engage conference: 18 September
There are still a few places left at at Engage - the University of Bristol’s free annual conference about public engagement. The finalised timetable is now available; alongside discussions about various aspects of public engagement there will be case studies highlighting recent examples of excellent engagement - from social media to working with patients.

3. Bristol Neuroscience Festival: 11-12 October
Bristol Neuroscience celebrates its 10 year anniversary with interactive hands-on activities and experiments, a series of neuroscience talks and exhibitions of current research projects. The event will include a special exhibit from At-Bristol. Suitable for all ages.

4. British Ecological Society Outreach Grants: deadline 17 September
Grants of up to £2,000 are available to promote ecological science to a wide audience. Project aims can include stimulating discussion about ecology and its societal implications, increasing knowledge and inspiring people, and developing skills in communicating ecology.

5. Heritage Lottery Fund Heritage Grants: various dates
Funding is available for projects that relate to the national, regional or local heritage of the UK. To be eligible for funding a project must:
- help people to learn about their own and other people’s heritage.
- conserve the UK’s diverse heritage for present and future generations to experience and enjoy.
- help more people, and a wider range of people, to take an active part in and make decisions about heritage.
Various schemes for different amounts of funding exist; the deadline for grants between £2-5 million is on the 17 October.

6. Space for All grant scheme: deadline 28 October
The UK Space Agency's Space for All scheme aims to increase awareness among the general public of the UK's space programme and of the role that space plays in everyday life. It offers grants of up to £5,000 to groups ready to present the UK's space programme and stimulate the use of space in inspiration and learning, including:
- delivery of curriculum enrichment activities;
- delivery of activities to promote careers in the space sector;
- preparation of plans for long term projects;
- development of web or social media outreach content.

7. Royal Society Partnership Grants scheme: deadline 1 November
The next round of the Royal Society's Partnership Grants will open for applications in September. Through the scheme, grants of up to £3,000 will be available to support teachers, scientists and engineers help develop science projects, with the aim of making the teaching science more interesting within primary and secondary schools. Any UK primary or secondary school teacher and practising scientist/engineer can apply as long as the students involved in the project are between 5 and 18.

8. Community-based participatory research: unlocking the potential: 25 September
The NCCPE is running an event on unlocking the potential of community-based participatory research. Dr Ann-Gel Palermo, who is chair of the Harlem Community and Academic Partnership in New York will be the main speaker and will be sharing her experiences and hosting a discussion around CBPR in the context of community-university partnerships.
