University of Bristol engagement
1. Thinking Futures Festival: deadline 3 June
Thinking Futures is the University's festival to share and celebrate research in the social sciences. With a wide variety of events for the general public, schools, policy-makers and third sector organisations, it provides an opportunity to see how the social sciences inform key debates and advances in policy and practice for governments, education, charities, health services, legal systems, and public services around the globe.
Following the success of the first Festival last year, we are pleased to announce that Thinking Futures will be taking place in November as part of the ESRC's national Festival of Social Sciences. We are seeking applications from researchers who would like to hold an event at the Festival. 2. British Ecological Society Outreach Grants: deadline 17 September
The British Ecological Society is offering grants of up to £2,000 to promote ecological science to a wide audience. The funding is available for projects that:
* increase public understanding of, and engagement with ecology
* stimulate discussion about ecology and its implications for society
* inspire and enthuse people of all ages about the science of ecology, especially those not previously interested
* develop skills in communicating the science of ecology

3. Patient and Public Involvement Conference: abstract deadline 1st May
The conference, organised by the PenCLAHRC Patient and Public Involvement Team, will take place in Exeter, 13 - 15 November 2013. The call is now open for abstracts for posters, verbal presentations and special events, such as workshops, round table discussions, panel sessions, performances, etc.
The conference will focus on the latest thinking on patient and public involvement (PPI) in health research, including how PPI can play a meaningful role in research projects.

5. Two Science Communication Bursaries for UWE science communication programmes

7. Royal Society of Chemistry video competition: take 1…minute for chemistry in health
If you are an early-career researcher in the UK, produce a 1 minute video suitable for a non-specialist audience demonstrating how chemistry research can tackle human health challenges and be in with a chance of winning £500 and gaining work experience with a video journalist.
