University of Bristol engagement
1. Schools partnership coordinator: deadline 10 February
The University of Bristol is looking for a Schools Partnership Coordinator, to work with schools across Bristol through the Teaching School Alliances to bring cutting edge research into the classroom. You will work with academics from all the University’s faculties and with external organisations to train researchers, and provide opportunities for them to meet and work with school children in different settings.
This role is key to improving the way we work with local schools and to inspiring the next generation of researchers. 2. Paid student intern position for Seeds of Change: deadline 8 February
The Centre for Public Engagement is looking for a University of Bristol undergraduate or postgraduate student for an internship position working on the Seeds of Change project (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/public-engagement/events/seeds-of-change/). The intern will work closely with the project’s Coordinator to support the delivery of the project which is growing ballast seed gardens in 11 primary schools and 5 community groups in Bristol. 4. University of Bristol Engagement awards: deadline 11 March
We are pleased to announce the Engagement awards for 2012/13, sponsored by the Society of Merchant Venturers. Two awards will be made this year, each of £500, one to an individual and one to a group showing outstanding achievement in engagement. Individuals or groups can apply for the awards, or be nominated by a colleague.

1. Wellcome Trust Broadcast Development Awards: deadline 26 April
Recently announced, the Broadcast Development Awards support the development of broadcast proposals in any genre that engage the audience with issues around biomedical science in an innovative, entertaining and accessible way. The Trust are interested in funding individuals and organisations with brilliant early-stage ideas for TV, radio, new media or gaming projects. The funding, of up to £10,000 will enable these ideas to be developed into high-impact, well-researched proposals that can be used to secure a broadcast platform and/or further funding. Development funds might be used to undertake thorough research, create a taster tape, develop a script, or build a game prototype or mood reel.

1. NERC/Cabot Institute talk and workshop - Developing impact in the natural sciences: 1 February
The talk, from 12 pm - 1 pm, will help everyone improve their understanding of what the impact agenda means in practice by looking at case studies that have already been successfully developed for Biological Sciences, Earth Sciences and Geography. Discussion topics will include the successes and challenges of developing and capturing impact, approaches for pursuing impact and lessons learned along the way. The workshop from 2 pm - 4 pm is aimed at early career researchers and will help you develop your impact plan and narrative, including engaging the public. Come and learn from people with impact experience, and get practical advice, tips and guidance to help you work on your own impact plans.

3. Big Bang South West: 27 June
The Big Bang fairs are a celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths. This regional fair showcases exhibits from inspirational scientists and engineers with the aim of opening the minds of young people, with over 2,000 pupils attending last year's fair. 1. Careering Around mentors: 18-22 March
Cheltenham Science Festival is looking for early career scientists/engineers or other STEM professionals to share their passion for science/engineering in an outreach programme for Year 10 pupils called Careering Around.
Unlike a standard careers fair, Careering Around involves interactive sessions based on a speed dating format, making it lively, dynamic and definitely memorable!
Join us on the Careering Around minibus for one or two days between 18th-22nd March. We will be visiting schools in Gloucestershire, Bristol and Somerset and working with Year 10 pupils.
There will be a training session in late February/ early March (date and venue TBC).
