Engage 2009

We are delighted to be holding Engage 2009 - the first University of Bristol public engagement conference, this afternoon, June 30 2009, 2 pm - 6 pm, on the 4th floor of the Graduate School of Education at 35 Berkeley Square, Bristol BS8 1JA.

The conference is open to staff and post-graduate students with an interest in public engagement and will be a place to hear from national figures in public engagement, to share experiences and ideas, and to find out about the range of public engagement activity at the University of Bristol.

The programme looks like this:

• 2pm - Welcome and introduction, Professor Guy Orpen, Dean of Science


• 2.15pm - The public engagement landscape in Bristol (plenary) with speakers Dr Steven Hill, Research Councils UK, and Paul Manners, National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement


• 3pm - Range of case studies from the University of Bristol


• 4pm - Parallel workshops: challenges and opportunities in public engagement


• Working with teachers and schools


• Measuring impact and evaluating public engagement opportunities


• Working with community partners


• Funding and sustainability


• Web and new media in public engagement


• Engaged teaching


• Engaged research


• Skills development for public engagement


• Gtting started in public engagement


• 5pm - Drinks reception and gallery walk from group work
